Outlook/Exchange Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions which relate to Outlook 2000 and 2002.  For FAQ's and tips that are version specific, click on the links to the left.

First, check to make sure that you are logged onto the network.  Unlike Eudora and QVT, you must be logged correctly onto the network for Outlook to get your mail.   Second, check to make sure you are sorting your mail by date and time.  You can do this by clicking on the word "Received" in your inbox window.

This occurs when you have person's name in your Contacts list along with the Global Address Book.  To correct this problem, take the person's name out of your Contacts List and use only the Global Address Book for this person.

With Outlook 2000 and 2002 configured with the Exchange, everything is on the server and therefore you do not need to back anything up.  The exception is if you archive any folders, which are located on either your hard drive or an online drive.  For more information on Archiving, go to the tutorial for: Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2002.

If your Outlook program is configured as a POP3 client or you are archiving, the files are on the hard drive (or path you specify) regardless of version.  To back this up, again use the Find tool under the Start menu.  This time, search your My Computer for "*.pst" and backup any of these files.  After the rebuild, you will need to put these files back into your profile when you configure it.  Information on configuring Outlook 2000 to work with your POP3 account can be found here.  For Outlook 2002, go here.
