Deleted Item Recovery
Outlook 2002 and 2003
(screenshots may vary; instructions remain the same)
Have you ever deleted an item, emptied your Deleted Items Folder, and then realized that you needed that item? With the Deleted Item Recovery utility in Outlook, you'll be able to retrieve that item. This utility will allow you to recover items which you deleted and emptied from your Deleted Items Folder for up to ten days. Here's how to use this feature:
| Go to your Deleted Items folder. | |
| Click on Tools and Recover Deleted Items. If you are using 2002, or 2003, this item may be hidden. If this is the case, go to the bottom of the menu and click on the two down arrows to expand the menu. | |
| This is the window that shows the list of items that you deleted over the last ten days. | |
| Find the desired item in the list and click on it. Then click on the middle icon in the toolbar. The icon looks like an envelope and if you hold the cursor over it, it will say Recover Selected Items as shown to the right. | |
| The item will then move back into the Deleted Items folder where you can work with it. | |
You can also recover items that you deleted from public folders. This will only work if you have read/write/delete access to that folder. Items that you delete from public folders do not go to your deleted items folder, they get deleted directly. Here are the directions for recovering an item deleted from a public folder:
1. Go to the public folder from which you deleted the item.
2. Click on Tools, Recover Deleted Item.
3. Follow the same process as above to return the item to the public folder.
