CISUNIX / POP3 Setup

Below are the directions to setup Outlook to receive your CISUnix e-mail.  These steps should be used after installing Outlook 2003 or Office 2003.  For instructions for other versions of Outlook, click here.

Begin by finding the Outlook icon on your computer.

If it is not on your desktop, you can find it by clicking on

Start >
All Programs >
Microsoft Office >
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

Right-click (click on the right mouse button) on the Outlook icon..

A window like the one to the right will appear.

Select Properties and click on it (left-click)..

This window will appear.

Click Show Profiles.

The following window will appear.

Click Add...

In the Profile Name box, type in a name for your profile.

Click OK.

Choose Add a new e-mail account

Then click Next.

Select the POP3 button and click Next.

Fill out the information as shown to the right.  The Server Information fields should have exactly the same information as shown.  For the Account name, you need to enter your e-mail account user name (the text before the @ sign in your e-mail address).  In this window, you will have to fill out the information about your e-mail account.  For your password, use your CISUNIX password.  Then Click on More Settings.

**Off-campus users please note:** In order to send e-mail while off-campus, you must enter the SMTP (outgoing mail) server name instead of cisunix.unh.edu. You will not be able to send mail otherwise. This setting will need to be changed to cisunix.unh.edu if you use your computer both on and off campus (e.g. a laptop computer.)

In this window, you may wish to enter a different reply E-mail address. If not, leave it as your CISUNIX E-mail address. When you are done, click on the Advanced tab.
In this tab, make sure your settings match those pictured in the example.  Click OK. This will return you to your main settings window.  Click the Test Account Settings button.
If some errors occur, there probably is something improperly configured in your settings.  Check them over for mistakes such as typos and then try the test again.  If errors still occur, contact the helpdesk.  Ideally, the test window should appear as it does in the example on the right.  Click Close, OK,  and then Next.
When all the settings have been entered, and the test completed, this window will appear alerting you that your account has finished being set up.  Click Finish.
When you are returned to this window, make sure the button, Always use this profile is selected and the name of the new profile, (jdoe in this example), is shown in the field at the bottom of the window.  Click OK

The first time you run Outlook, you may be prompted to setup Outlook again through a wizard.  You will want to just skip through this. At the screen that asks you if you have used Outlook before, click No.  At the screen that asks which information service you want to use, click on Internet Only and click Next.  This should take you into Outlook and you can begin.
