Creating a Rule for SpamAssassin

Outlook 2002

The following steps need to be performed in the main window of Microsoft Outlook.

Go to the File menu, select New, and then select Folder.

In the Name field enter "Spam"
Select "Mailbox - Your Name", and then click OK

Go to the Tools menu, and then select Rules Wizard.
Click the New button.

Select "Start from Blank Rule"
Select "Check messages when they arrive", then click Next.


Fill in the check box next to "with specific words in the message header "

In the Rule Description section at the bottom, click on "specific words".
In the Specific Words field enter
X-MailScanner-SpamScore: sssss then click Add.
Then type: x-mailscanner-spamscore: sssss and click Add again.

(**Note: only one space after the colon**)



X-MailScanner-SpamScore: sssss will appear in the Search List. Click OK.
Click Next. Fill in the check box next to "move it to the specified folder".
In the Rule Description section at the bottom, click on "specified".


Select the Spam folder you created, and then click OK
The window should look as follows:

Click Finish to accept the defaults for the remaining options.
A rule named
"X-MailScanner-SpamScore: sssss or x-mailscanner-spamscore: sssss" will appear in the list with its checkbox filled in. Click OK.

All future messages with
"X-MailScanner-SpamScore: sssss" or "x-mailscanner-spamscore: sssss" (there could be additional s's) in the header will be automatically moved to your Spam folder for your review.
**Note: You can modify the score string, although it is not recommended, to be longer or shorter. Details on doing so are available here.**
