Outlook 2003 SettingsBelow is a list of additional settings you can choose in Outlook 2003 and a brief description of each. Please use discretion when editing any of these settings. The UNH preferred settings were set when Outlook was installed on your machine. To access these settings you must open the Options menu, which can be done by clicking on Tools and selecting Options.
To learn about the E-mail Options (outlined in red below), click here. To learn about the Calender Options (outlined in blue below), click here. To learn about the Contact Options (outlined in green below), click here.
![]() Mail Options In the Mail Options window (pictured below) you can adjust the settings for your e-mail. Do not change anything in this window. Doing so could disrupt your e-mail service.
![]() Mail Format The Mail Format window (pictured below) gives you the options on how to view your e-mail. The message format should always be set to "HTML." You can also create signatures from this window by clicking on "Signatures..." For more information on signatures, click here.
![]() Spelling The Spelling window (pictured below) includes your spell checker settings. You shouldn't need to change these unless you need to edit your custom dictionary.
![]() Security The Security window (pictured below) allows you to adjust your security settings. These settings help prevent your messages from being read by people other than whom intended. They also help prevent unnecessary hazards by giving you warnings before doing something that could be dangerous for your computer. Again, these settings shouldn't be changed unless you need to encrypt an e-mail. For help on encrypting an e-mail, go to the Help menu in Outlook.
![]() Other The Other window (pictured below) gives you options on Deleting items and settings for the Preview Pane for those who use it. We strongly suggest that you set Outlook to delete items on exit. Do this by checking the box next to "Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting." The AutoArchive options should not be changed unless you are having difficulty keeping your mailbox size under the 100Mb quota. AutoArchiving saves the information on your hard disk or your home folder and not on the Exchange server. For more information about AutoArchive, click here.
![]() Delegates The Delegates window (pictured below) is used to set delegates for your e-mail. This option allows you to let other people read and send mail on your behalf. It appears to the recipient that it came from you when it may have actually come from your delegate. For help on setting this up, consult the Outlook 2003 Help section.
![]() For additional help with any of these items, or anything else, consult "Microsoft Outlook Help" in the help menu of Outlook 2003.
