Below is a list of additional settings you can choose in Outlook
2002 and a brief description of each. Please use discretion when editing any
of these settings. The UNH Preferred settings were set when Outlook was installed on your machine.
To access the Options menu, click on Tools and scroll down to Options.
This is the first screen in the options menu. In this screen you can
edit the way e-mails look and set up the default reminders in the calendar. You can
get more specific with each of these items by clicking on the appropriate
buttons.
To the left are the different E-Mail options. To
access this window, click on the E-Mail Options button in the
Preferences screen. In this
window, you can set basic e-mail options. If you access the Advanced
E-mail Options section, you
can choose what kind of notification you want when new mail arrives.
These are the calendar options. There aren't too many different
selections, but what is here is self-explanatory. The options here
will help you customize the way you want your calendar to look.
This option, accessed from the preferences page will allow you to customize how you view your
contacts.
This window has the settings for your e-mail. Do not change anything
in this window. Doing so could disrupt your e-mail service.
This window gives you the options on how to view your e-mail. The
message format should always be set to "HTML". You
can also create signatures from this window by clicking on "Signatures...".
For more information on signatures, click here.
These are your spell checker settings. You shouldn't
need to change
these unless you need to edit your custom dictionary.
Your security settings help prevent your messages from being read by
people other than whom intended. They also help prevent unnecessary hazards
by giving you warnings before doing something that could be dangerous for your computer.
Again, these settings shouldn't be changed unless you need to encrypt an e-mail.
For help on encrypting an e-mail, go to the Help menu in Outlook.
This screen gives you options on Deleting Items and settings for the
Preview Pane for those who use it. We strongly suggest that you leave the setting
for Outlook to delete items on exit. Remember that your e-mail is now on a server,
and having a lot of junk mail on the server causes the server to run less efficiently.
The
AutoArchive options also should not be changed unless you are having
difficulty keeping your mailbox size under the 50Mb quota. AutoArchiving saves the information
on your hard disk or your home folder and not on the Exchange server.
For more information about Auto-Archive, click here.
This screen is used to set delegates for your e-mail. This option
allows you to let other people read and send mail on your behalf. It appears to
the recipient that it came from you when it may have actually come from your delegate.
For help on setting this up, consult the Outlook 2002 Help section.
For additional help with any of these items, or anything else, consult
"Microsoft Outlook Help" in the
help menu of Outlook 2002. The plethora of information available here is
very informative.
