Outlook 2007 Settings

There are many customizable options available to Outlook 2007 users. Below is a brief description of some of the settings you can manipulate to make Outlook 2007 your own. To access these settings you must open the “Options”  menu, which can be done by clicking on the Tools tab at the top of the screen, and then selecting Options from the drop down menu.

Preferences
The initial screen in the Options menu is the Preferences menu. Within this menu there are three main customizable options. E-mail options, Calendar options, and Contact options. (All of which are described in further detail below) Outlook 2007 also lets you customize your tasks and any sort of notes, as well as a new mobile update feature.

Options

Mail Setup
In the Mail Setup tab you can change some of the specific options for sending mail. You will want to tread very lightly with this menu as changing anything can severely alter your e-mail service. For the most part, the default settings are going to be used in almost all cases, so this window is better left alone.

Mail Format
The Mail Format menu gives the user control of making changes that will affect the view and style of your email, things such as font size, font type, and color. You will also want to make sure your message format is HTML. Signatures are also created and applied from this window, merely click on the Signatures tab and create your signature. (A signature is essentially a digital send off that will be applied to all your emails, and usually contain your name, job title, and place of business)

Spelling
The Spelling menu is where you will find your spell check options. The default settings are most likely the way you will want your settings, so you will probably not need to change anything in this menu, unless you wanted to edit or change your personal custom dictionary.

Other
The Other screen lets you change the settings of the Deleted Items Folder. In this menu is the setting to automatically delete items on exit. To do this simply check the box that says, “Empty the Deleted Items up exiting.”  The other two options are for your Auto Archive and your Reading Pane. For the most part these should be left alone unless you want to change the way in which you read your emails.

Delegates
The Delegates window is used to set delegates for your e-mail. This option allows you to let other people read and send mail on your behalf. It appears to the recipient that it came from you when it may have actually come from your delegate.
